The art from the Mimika area or Kamoro people is not frequently on the market. I recently acquired this old food platter in Germany. It is a good old one with delicate carving that is said to be a stylized figure, faint remains of white and red pigments and a dark brown overall patina from age and wear. Notice the rough-hewn adzing on the inside of the bowl and the traces of red lines. The bowl is 39 ½” (100.3 cm) in length, dates to the early 20th century, and sells for $3800. Questions?
