This ancestral spirit figure with tall sweptback headdress would have been lashed to the bow of a large trading outrigger canoe from the Coastal Sepik area near the Murik Lakes. It has a fantastic provenance being collected by Ingeborg de Beausacq, ex. Nelson Rockefeller Collection (April 10, 1958), ex. Museum of Primitive Art, New York (58.106) and ex. Sotheby’s New York, May 4, 1967. The figure dates to the early 20th century, is 22 7/8” (58 cm) in height and the price is available upon request. Questions?
