On Vokeo Island, dance masks were of two classic types—male and female “Lewa.” This example with a long, elegantly curved nose would be considered male. It is a superb example from the Van Oosterom Collection, Amsterdam. What most people do not realize is that the coconut fiber bundle around the top of the mask usually contains orange magical powder that gave the mask its power. This one dates to the early 20th century, is 13 3/8” 934 cm) in height and the price is available upon request. Questions?
