As with the previous Massim club this Western Australian aboriginal parrying shield was collected by the Irish gold prospector Joshua O’Sullivan but during his time in Australia in the 1880/90s. It has a beautiful and finely carved design and an interesting treatment on the reverse. The handle shows definitive signs of wear and use—thus placing this shield firmly in the 1870s. It is 30 5/8” (77.8 cm) in height and sells for $4500. Questions?
