Well it would be hard to find an older Mendi shoulder shield than the present example. It is pre-contact, stone-carved with old crater-style holes, rounded edges and multiple layers of pigments. The shield is ex. Alex Philips Collection, dates to the early 20th century or before and is illustrated in my “Michael Hamson Paris 2011” catalog, no. 19. It is 28 ½” (72.5 cm) in height and sells for $8500. Questions?
