This is one of the best Simbai shields I have ever owned. It is obviously pre-contact and stone-carved with a lovely roundness to the edges from both extended wear and the nature of stone tooling. The patina is thick and encrusted and luckily there is a nice tracery of peach-colored pigment outlining the raised abstract design. Notice the glossy patina on some of the edges best seen on the backside. The shield is ex. Wayne Heathcote from the 1960s, dates to the early 20th century or before, is 38 5/8” (98.4 cm) in height and sells for $8000. Questions?
