I published this old Abelam cassowary bone dagger in my “Collecting New Guinea Art” catalog as it was collected by Douglas Newton, former director of the Museum of Primitive Art in New York (Newton inventory number Abl.11). Later this was in the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede. The dagger has both a beautiful brown patina and remains of red, white and blue pigments. The pieces dates to the late 19th/early 20th century, is 13 ¼” (33.6 cm) in height and sells for $1200. Questions?
