Oceanic Art - Enlargement

This turtle shell armband from the grassy Sepik Plains just north of the Sepik River has a powerful graphic design. The design is haunting with several eye motifs and two stylized figures. The motif is made more intense by the white lime infill set against the dark brown of the natural turtle shell. The two ends of the shell are connected with a woven band. The eye motif is central in New Guinea art and exemplifies the art's ability and intention to dazzle and arrest one's attention. The armband is 6" in height, comes on a custom display stand. sold
