Oceanic Art - Enlargement

This elegant comb comes from the Collingwood Bay area of Papua New Guinea's Oro Province. This is a very old example with most of its bead and shell attachments missing. The present example was collected in Riaga village, where they speak the Oyan language. The local guy in the photograph was kind enough to model how these were used in pairs. The comb is carved from turtle shell, is 10" in height. sold
