This is an excellent example of fighting shield probably from Wogumas village of the Middle/Upper Sepik River. It has a very well carved design of classic Sepik scrolls and an engaging ancestral spirit face. The shield dates to the 1940s, comes from a Texas private collection, was originally purchased in Sydney in the early 1970s, is 73 3/8" (186 cm) in height and sells for $6000. Questions?
