Oceanic Art - Image Enlargement
This is a small and fine top of a Mountain Arapesh neckrest. It would of course had split cane legs bent around the top above and below the ancestral faces. These faces are classic Arapesh with bow-tie nostrils. Viewed in the profile other zoomorphic faces can be seen. The piece dates to the early 20th century, comes from the collection of John Friede, is 11 ¾" (30 cm) in height and sells for $2400. Questions?
