This is an extremely fine woman’s tapa cloth normally worn wrapped around the waist with the tassels at the bottom. The design on this example is very well done with a complex aesthetic pattern—please take a close look at the design to see the conscious deviations in repetition. This tapa was featured in my 2009 catalog "Art of the Massim and Collingwood Bay" on page 267. The tapa is 52" (132.1 cm) across, dates to the early/mid 20th century, comes professionally mounted on a black canvas support frame and sells for $2200. Questions?
