Oceanic Art - Plaited Items Enlargement

This striking artifact is the top portion of a Yangoru Boiken Talipoon. Known locally as either huari or humbuli, these were used as a traditional form of bride price compensation. This plaited top portion would have been tied to a green turbu sea shell. The hornbill beak is complete and shows substantial age. The talipoon stands 15 ½" in height, comes mounted on a custom display stand. sold
