Oceanic Art - Miscellaneous Enlargement

This ancient and striking piece is a Yena carving from the Nukuma culture of the Washkuk Hills north of the Middle Sepik River. The piece is very unusual for its somewhat diminutive size for a yena and the face being more reminiscent to the large female nogwi figures. The figure shows great age with layers of red, yellow, white and black pigments, pierced nose and ears and heavy erosion to the post. The piece is 18" in height, comes mounted on a custom display stand. sold
