This is an old and very fine shield from the Josephstahl area of the Middle Ramu River. Such shields are rare and ones with the woven cane band in the middle still extant are almost none existent—even though there is fraying at the bottom of the cane. This piece comes from a prominent New Orleans collection of Oceanic art, stands 59" in height. sold
