Oceanic Art - Miscellaneous Enlargement

This is a large, pre-contact, stone-carved Boiken plate. This type of food plate that is nice and deep comes from the Boiken people who live high in the Prince Alexander Mountains around the mission station at Sassoya. The piece has a wonderfully complex design and two zoomorphic faces carved in relief. The bowl has a great patina from generations of use, is 19" in diameter and about 5" deep. sold
