Oceanic Art - Masks Enlargement
This striking gourd mask comes from the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. The face is fashioned from a hollowed out gourd and has raised eye brows and nose from either a wax or clay. There are job's tears seeds used in the mouth to represent teeth. These masks are rare and were said to represent the spirit that causes leprosy and were danced to taunt young men into better behavior. The mask is 7 ½" in height, comes mounted on a custom display. sold
