Oceanic Art - Miscellaneous Enlargement

This ancient stone club comes from the area at the mouth of the Musa River in Papua New Guinea's Oro Province. Such a piece was of course used as a weapon. What makes this example unusual is the fact that both the stone and the wood handle are ancient. Normally when one comes across such a club the stone is pre-historic but the handle is new. This one has an equally ancient handle with a thick encrusted patina over the wood and fiber binding on either side of the stone head. The club is 34" in height, comes with a custom display stand and sells for $1200. Questions?
