Oceanic Art - Personal Decoration Enlargement

This piece is a rare woven cane hair funnel from the coastal area at the mouth of the Sepik River or one of the offshore Schouten Islands. Traditionally only older, fully initiated men wore these as a sign of their elite status. This example has layers of red and blue pigments with nassa shells and a ridge of old German trade imitation dog's teeth. The piece is 6" in height and sells for $900. Questions?
