Oceanic Art - Miscellaneous Enlargement

This yena figure comes from the Kwoma culture of the Washkuk hills north of the middle Sepik River. Yena figures were used in a special ritual that ensured the well-being of the yam crop. This one is quite nice, carved from a dense hardwood, good old paint, remains of feathers around chin and a mouth carved in high relief. The piece has the pierced nose and ears of a well-used traditional piece. The figure is 52" in height, comes with a custom display mount. sold
