This fantastic clay pot is from the Abelam culture. There is a known style of clay pots with ancestral faces in high relief used to serve a special yam soup to men heading into battle. This particular example is exceptional for the overly large and expressive face, good age and faint remains of pigments on the face. Please note the break in the rim on the reverse side of the pot and inside is a splash of red Western paint. The pot is 7" in height and 9 ½" in diameter. sold
