This fine little figure comes from the Southern Abelam people. It is a female ancestor figure and would have been probably been kept in a personal house as opposed to the large ceremonial House Tambaran. The piece is carved from a dense hardwood and has an old glossy patina. The hornbill surmounting the figure has a delightful form. There are traces of red pigments underneath the patina and there is a crack along the hornbills beak where the piece had probably been broken and re-glued locally. The piece is very small for an Abelam figure. The piece is 16 ½" in height, comes mounted on a custom display stand. sold
