This ancient piece is a bust from the extreme headwaters of the Karawari and Kosemeri Rivers. Like most cave pieces from this region it is both extremely weathered and fragmentary. One side has a beautiful erosion heightening the grain of the wood while the other shows more carving detail of the original piece. The figure has a naturalism rarely found on the flatter, two-dimensional carvings. The piece is 18 ¼" in height, carved from a dense hardwood. sold
