This is an old and classic wood plate from Lake Sentani. The reverse shows the stylized splayed form of some zoomorphic creature, there are traces of red pigments and an overall glossy dark brown patina. On the inside right edge there is a chunk that had been broken and glued back—visible when looking at the inside of the plate but nearly invisible when viewing the plate’s carved backside. The piece comes from the Fortess Collection in Hawaii, dates to the 1920/30s, is 20 ¾" in length and sells. sold
