This small and fine Papuan Gulf drum comes from the Fortess Collection in Hawaii. It has a well executed design carved in relief with an ancestral face on both sides of the open crocodile mouth end of the drum. The carving is in-filled with white lime powder to make the graphic design stand out. The piece has an aged brown patina and there are three small paper labels on the handle from Fortess — one indicates the drum coming from Mark Lissauer. The drum dates to the first quarter of the 20th century, is 20 ¾" in length. sold
