This tough little guy comes from the Murik Lakes, at the mouth of the Sepik River in Papua New Guinea. This figure was said to have been used for enlisting the help of the ancestors before engaging in a fight. While no sex is indicated because the figure is carved from the waist up I assume the ancestor depicted is male-because tribal fighting is a male domain even though most fights I've witnessed in Papua New Guinea were between women (fighting over men the men say). Either way, the figure is quite engaging with the head cocked to the side and an almost mocking expression. He has the essential pierced nose and ears of an early piece, is 5" tall. sold
