Oceanic Art - Image Enlargement
This little figure comes from the Murik Lakes area at the mouth of the Sepik River. Such small figures were kept by men in their string bags when venturing on longer ocean voyages as amulets in petitioning favorable winds and seas. This example is classic in form, has nice remains of red empowering pigments, is carved from a lighter wood and dates to the early 20th century. The figure is 9" in height. sold
