This little figure is a classic Karawari River yipwon. Such pieces were kept in men's string bags and served as both protective amulets and as power figures with regards to hunting and warfare. This example shows good age and definitive signs of field use-the nose is deeply pierced, the back spine is nice and thick, there are remains of a black substance where nassa shells would have been attached as eyes and overall the patina is solid and aged. The yipwon is 9" in height and sells for $3000. sold
