On the way inland I had asked about the possibility of encountering crocodiles and was quickly told that there were none in the area. However, after a night of heavy rains, a nearby large river overflowed its banks and brought the beasts right into our supposedly safe swamp. Thus we had to find any way we could to stay above the water when crossing the swamp on the way out, Inland Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea, April 2008.
