Oceanic Art - Enlargement

This striking piece is a balsa wood yam mask from the Southern Abelam area known as the Woseara. The Wosera are known for their relatively naturalistic art style that this piece exemplifies well. It is relatively large with robust volumes and great age. The colors are faded but several layers of pigments from several generations are visible. The handle cut out on the reverse has a very old patina for balsa wood. The piece is 14" in height, comes with a custom display mount and sells for $1600. Questions?
