This is a classic Abelam clay pot with two ancestral faces fashioned in full relief on the sides. Such pots were used to cook special white yam and coconut soup fed to men on ritual occasions such as male initiation and before going into battle. The pot has nice remains of pigments, dates to around 1940, is 9 ¾" in diameter. sold
