This striking piece is an ancient Abelam "bapa kumbu" helmet mask from Jamie Village, to the north of Maprik. It is unusual for its archaic, confrontational demeanor, its extreme age and the beautiful and vivid coloration. The inside of the mask shows a true old patina that is thick, black and encrusted--not your typical smoke job found on many newer masks. This piece is 16 1/2" in height, is pre-1920. sold
