This is a classic Lower Sepik River neckrest with ancestral faces on each end. The carved wood section is supported by two bent bamboo legs. The piece comes from the Fortess Collection of Hawaii (Fortess #1499) and was field collected by Mark Lissauer (#8826) and was previously in the Robert Browne Collection of Honolulu. The piece has a dry aged patina and there is some old rat gnawing on one of the ancestral faces. The headrest is 19" in length, is pre-1920. sold
