This is a striking Coastal Sepik food pounder from Kaup Lagoon, just west of the Murik Lakes at the mouth of the Sepik River. The pounder is surmounted by a classic long-nose ancestral figure and has two janus ancestral faces above that facing upwards. The patina is aged and glossy. The piece is 27" in height, dates to the 1930s and sells for $2300. Questions?
