This ancient drum is very rare in that it comes from the remote Kwanga Village of Sunahu. The Kwanga live to the southwest of the Abelam but share many cultural similarities. The two stylized figures on this drum have the classic Abelam pointed oval torso and angular "hocker" limbs. But the round face with the pointed headdress is distinctly Kwanga. The drum is ancient with a thick, black aged and glossy patina. The piece is 19 ¾" in height. sold
