This Mendi shield from Papua New Guinea's Southern Highlands Province is a fine old example. The colors are both strong and layered as in the early examples. The back has a fine brown aged patina that is hard and true-not like the soft, gummy black patinas seen on newer versions. The shield comes from the collection of Reg and Judy MacDonald who acquired it from Geoff Carey in the 1980s. The piece is 45" in height. sold
