This is a set of three very old and very small Abelam yam masks. Traditionally the older yam masks were small and tightly woven. And as the years went by after contact the yam masks got larger and more loosely constructed. In addition these three have thick surfaces from multiple layers of pigments—which is solid evidence of their age and ritual significance showing their use in multiple ceremonies.
