This is a large mask from the Ramu River area of New Guinea. It comes from the collection of George Craig at the Marineland Melanesia Museum on Green Island Australia. It has enormous scale and presence. The colors are bright and vivid. The mask itself is quite old as evidenced by the aged patina on the reverse. The mask is very unusual for having the fish/shark under the curve of the nose. The piece is 30" in height, dates to the 1930's. sold
