This is a small and ancient Abelam fiber yam mask constructed with the coiled technique. Like all yam masks this would have adorned the top of a ritually-grown long yam during its public display and exchange. This example has the thick surface from multiple layers of pigments that attest to its long ceremonial life. The mask is 7 ½” in height, dates to the 1930s. sold
