This is a rare form of woven headdress from the remote Rawlinson Mountain Range in Morobe Province’s Huon Peninsula. This is a remote area where few artifacts are represented in public or private collections. This headdress has a nice wide band of woven fiber with nassa shells and a full complement of cassowary feathers sprouting out the top—interspersed with the occasional white feather. Notice that there a few nassa shells missing out of the fiber band. The headdress dates to the early 20th century, is 14" in height as mounted. sold
