This whimsical lady is a very rare Abelam figure carved from either a root or tree branch. She has very long legs and a huge right foot. The arms reach out straight from the body. The organic flow and twisting of the wood creates movement and dynamism to the figure. The figure comes from the remote northwestern corner of the Abelam culture area toward the border with Drekiker. I would date the piece to the 1930/40s, it is 20 1/4" in height. sold
