This is a classic and ancient Washkuk Yena figure from the Nukuma culture that lives north of the Middle Sepik River. The piece was purchased by George Craig in the early 1960s from the dealer Barry Hoare. The figure has substantial erosion and wear but is still strong and stable. The hard "garamut" wood of the figure is dense and has an aged patina from generations of use. The piece dates to the 1920s, is 37 ¾" in height and sells for $4800. Questions?
