This gope or "hohao" ancestral board comes from the Turama River area and was collected by George Craig in the early 1960s (note the label and initials written in white on the board's reverse). The piece has the unusual "fish-tail" design at the bottom and a nice fully realized ancestral face at the top. There are strong remains of pigments on the front and an aged patina on the reverse. The piece dates to the 1920/30s, is 52 ½" in height. sold
