This engaging personage is the woven cane top section of a Yangoru Boiken talipoon bride price payment. Normally this ancestral face would have been tied to a green turban sea shell but often the woven parts get separated from the shells. In the 1970/80s these talipoons fell out of common circulation at bride price exchanges and were often tossed in a corner piled on top of each other — causing the shells to come loose (more than you wanted to know?). Anyway, this face is very fine with a powerful expression, an ironic smile and good remains of pigments. The piece is 18 ½" in height. sold
