This striking piece is a tapa waist cloth from the TepTep area in the Finisterre Mountain range that crosses both Madang and Morobe Provinces in Papua New Guinea. Such cloths were worn by men during traditional initiation ceremonies and most other festive occasions. The design on this example is simple, organic and elegant. The piece shows substantial age and use, is 30 ½" in height. sold
