This powerful piece comes from the Hunstein Mountain range that lies to the west of the Karawari River region in Papua New Guinea's East Sepik Province. Authentic Hunstein material is very rare and while this piece is not pre-contact it is a nice old metal-carved example. The mask is carved from a dense hardwood, has traces of red pigments, was collected in the early 1960s and comes from the collection of George Craig. The piece is 36" in height, comes with a custom display stand. sold
