This engaging visage is the top section of a Yangoru Boiken "talipoon" bride price payment. Normally attached is a cut and polished green turban sea shell— the fiber ancestral faces often get separated from their shell bases. This face has the classic Yangoru area pointed headdress, tubular eyes and broad smile of one of their many named bush spirits often portrayed on their talipoon. The cane is coated with a mud base and traces of the once present colored pigments are still visible. The piece is 16" in height and sells for $800. Questions?
