This wood serving dish comes from Lake Sentani and is a classic of Oceanic art. The piece was collected during WWII by the American soldier Gene Gach. This example is unusual for both the figurative design (frigate birds?) and the well executed ancestral head at the top. There are traces of black and some red pigments. The plate is 25" in height, comes on a custom display mount. sold
