This striking object is the figurative sharp end of a Sawos culture, Sepik Plains area dance spear. The piece is fragmentary, as obviously several of the hooked projections are broken or missing—but the ancestral face and the overall form is still strong. It is carved from the very hard black palm wood, is 26" in height, dates to the early/mid 20th century and sells for $2800. Questions?
