Oceanic Art - Image Enlargement



This is an old, pre-contact, stone-carved wood fighting shield from the area east of Lumi in Papua New Guinea’s Torricelli Mountains. The shield has the classic kidney shape and a design carved in high relief. There are numerous old arrow tips embedded in the front of the shield indicating a long and fruitful life in war. The shield is 39 ½" in height, dates to around 1900. sold
